Services

Bespoke software for schools, organisations and businesses.

We're a small studio in Sheffield. We build websites, web apps, mobile apps and desktop tools for schools, charities, councils and businesses. You get a fixed price before any work starts, something working to try within a few weeks, and the code is yours.

What we build

Most projects are a mix of these.

Each one links to something we've built, or a demo you can try.

  • Web applications.

Logins, roles, dashboards, payments, email. We've built school billing by card and purchase order, and marking that handles 250,000+ answers.

    Seen in SubjectHub, BrightWorks, CityQuest

  • Websites.

Built to load in under two seconds on a phone and pass an accessibility check. You edit the words and pictures yourself.

Seen in the allergen menu demo, the before and after demo

  • Mobile apps.

iPhone and Android from one codebase, published to both stores in your organisation's name.

    Seen in BrightWorks, CityQuest

  • Desktop tools and automation.

Windows programs for bulk jobs, and scripts that connect the systems you already pay for.

Seen in Publisher Converter, EAL Translate

  • AI features, with limits.

We decide with you what the AI may and may not do, test it on your real cases, and give staff a way to correct it.

    Seen in SubjectHub, EAL Translate

  • Website reviews.

A written report on the site you have, in order of what matters most.

What we build with  Next.js and React, React Native, C# and .NET, Python, Firebase, PostgreSQL, Azure, Render, Stripe, Microsoft and Google sign-in, and AI model APIs.

Who we work with

Schools, charities, councils and businesses.

Mostly small teams without a developer of their own.

  • Schools and trusts

Steve teaches, so we know how schools work and how they buy: purchase orders, termly budgets and sign-off from the business manager. Booking for parents' evenings and trips, cover rotas, dashboards from your MIS exports, tools for one department, school websites.

  • Charities, councils and membership bodies

Member and volunteer portals, event booking, referral and case tracking, and tools that replace a shared spreadsheet. We sign a data processing agreement, keep your data in the UK or EU, and help with your DPIA.

  • Businesses

Booking and quoting systems, customer portals, job and stock tracking, and websites that turn up in search. You deal with the same person from the first call to launch, and after it.

How a project runs

We build quickly and put working software in front of you early.

Decisions get made on something real, not a document.

  1. 01

A conversation, then a fixed quote.

We talk through what you need, then send a written scope and a fixed price. Purchase orders are fine.

  2. 02

    Something you can use, early.

A working prototype at a real web address, so you react to software you can click, not a specification.

  3. 03

    Built in short rounds.

You see progress as it happens and can change direction while it's still cheap to.

  4. 04

    Launch and handover.

You own the code, the domain and the accounts. We write the guide for whoever will use it.

  5. 05

    Support, if you want it.

A monthly plan covers hosting, updates and small changes. Or we hand over and step back.

What every project gets

  • A fixed price before we start. If the scope changes, we agree the new price before doing the extra work.
  • Something working to try early, not a long document first.
  • The code, the domain and the accounts in your name.
  • Documentation in plain English.
  • A reply within one working day.

Questions people ask

Do you take purchase orders?
Yes. Most of our school and council work is paid by purchase order on 30-day terms.
Who owns what you build?
You do. The code, the domain and the hosting accounts are in your name, and you can take them to another developer whenever you like.
Where is our data kept?
In UK or EU data centres unless you ask otherwise. We sign a data processing agreement and help with your DPIA.
Can you work with the systems we already use?
Usually. We've built on Microsoft and Google sign-in, Stripe, Google Maps and spreadsheet imports. If your system has an API or an export, we can work with it.
Can you take over a project someone else started?
Yes. We start with a short paid review of the code so the quote we give you is honest.
What if we only need something small?
Small jobs are welcome. Plenty of useful tools cost less than a laptop.
